![]() ![]() I always stick with Wix on both oil and engine air filters. Here a video comparison, watch from beginning if you want see how utter crap Fram really is. Fram was shit 15 years ago and still is, Napa Gold/Wix literally have 2x filter material in the same sized filter. Yes different indeed, search youtube and people take these apart all the time. So, in bth cases, you get what you pay for. i recently cut open a napa pro select filter - same basic construction as the napa gold with. There are filters with hard seals and there are filters with soft seals (which seal the air box better). There are cheap air filters that have very little filtration material (basically not much more than kleenex tissue) or there are ones with much more material or material of different fabrics. While the basic construction may be the same, the materials and quality are definitely different between a $5 and $15 filter.Īs for air filters, it is the same situation. The amount of filtration material, the bypass valves, the drain back valve are different in them all.Īs you even noted, there are different types sold for regular and synthetic although that makes no difference as the filtration fabric is not important as long as it filters, can be paper, cloth or some other fabric. ![]() There are significant differences between filter brands and types an models. the oil filter makes no difference to performance. I got 4 friends who are ALL MECHANICS and they all say the same. There is no reason to pay more than $10 for an oil filter. Oil filters don't make much of a difference. One thing I am really disappointed about the Wix/NapaGold line up is that many of the less fast moving part numbers are just reboxed aftermarket stuff from who knows where. I doubt that the ProSelect could have been even lower grade. Why? Makes more money for them for those novices that think certain model numbers are for synthetic and certain ones for conventional. The last time I bought a Napa 'GOLD' fuel filter for our Volvo the filter inside the box was labeled Made in China. whereas if you look at FRAM, they have three different types of oil filters for the vehicle. ![]() Gary has a good point about not using the anti-drainback valve, I never put any thought into it. It's funny to point out that Dealerships use the SAME oil filter for both conventional and synthetic oil. I believe the AC Delco equivalent for the larger size truck filter PF1218 Napa equivalent is the 1060 or as nova75mike mentioned the 1061 w/o anti-drainback. ![]()
